The Study on MMPI Profiles of the Anxiety Neurosis and the Neurotic Depression

Abstract
The comparative study on the MMPI profiles of 66 anxiety neurosis and 56 neurotic depression, treated at Woo Sok Hospital during the period of Jan. 1970 to June 1973, showed as follows.
1. T score of the clinical scales of the MMPI profiles for the anxiety neurosis and the neurotic depression showed considerable elevation in neurotic trends. The D and Pt scales of MMPI profiles in the nerotic depression showed significant elevation than those of the anxiety neurosis (P<0.001):
2. As to the comparative analysis according to the 8 types of the validity scale for the two groups, the ¢¥L¢¥ type showed significantly higher incidence in the anxiety neurosis than that of the neurotic depression (P<0.01), and the ¢¥lower¢¥ type showed significantly higher incidence in the neurotic depression than that of the anxiety neurosis (P<0.01).
3. As to the comparative analysis of the MMPI profies with the clinical scales exceeding or non-exceeding 70 in T score, the MMPI profiles with exceeding 70 in T score showed significantly higher incidence in the neurotic depression than in the anxiety neurosis (P<0. 01). And the MMPI profiles with exceeding or non-exceeding 70 in T score according to the 8 types of the validity scale showed no significant difference between the two groups, but in the anxiety neurosis the hWI profiles with non-exceeding 70 of ¢¥L¢¥ type showed significantly higher incidence than that of the other types of validity scale (P<0.01), and in the both groups the MMPI profiles with exceeding 70 of ¢¥A" type showed significantly higher incidence than the other types of ¢¥validity scale (P<0.01).
4.. The clinical scales of the MMPI profiles according to ¢¥lower¢¥ type, ¢¥Am type and ¢¥V¢¥ type of the validity scale showed no significant differences between the anxiety neurosis and the neurotic depression. But in the both groups, the MMPf profiles of ¢¥A¢¥ type of the validity scale showed the highest T score distribution and that of "V¢¥ type showed the lowest T score distribution* than the other types of validity scale.
5. These results could suggest that D and Pt value of the clinical scales and types of the validity scale would be ,applied effectively for the differential diagnosis between the anxiety neurosis and neurotic depression.
